Abstract

This text describes my reflections over Lev Semenovich Vygotsky to the Family Therapy field. Vygotsky was a psychologist, linguist and educator who worked in the context of the 1917 Russian Revolution, and since the 1980’s became the best-known author in Brazil in the field of education. Initially dedicated to investigating the human brain, the psychological superior functions, he focused on the understanding of how social relations impact human development. Innovative by nature, he attempted to establish a Psychology inspired on Marxist’s ideas, questioning the concept that development precedes apprenticeship. He has influenced several contemporary therapists with similar views, among which Michael White, who proposes therapy as a Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD).
